SurModics' Culture
SurModics' success is driven by our exceptional people and our unique culture. Our culture values, recognizes, and rewards high performance, innovation, creativity, individual and team efforts, respect for others, and leadership.
We have a highly talented team of individuals in all areas of business and technical operations. Approximately 80% of our employees have strong technical backgrounds and possess undergraduate and advanced degrees in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, microbiology, tissue engineering, and a number of other scientific and engineering disciplines.
Technology developed by SurModics' employees is used on commercialized products for over 100 leading medical device and pharmaceutical companies. Our employees work collaboratively with customers on product development efforts, creating the opportunity to work with both emerging and multi-national device, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical companies at the earliest product development stages.
Through the course of our customer projects and internal research and development, we strive to create novel solutions. As a result, SurModics' and its employees generate approximately 50 patent applications per year. In addition to benefiting from a patent awards program, we honor innovators who demonstrate innovative thinking and methodology, superior problem solving, high scientific integrity, and diligence and perserverance, with the prestigious Catalyst Award. The Catalyst Award is a peer-selected award that recognizes scientific achievement and excellence at SurModics, and the accomplishment of a technical contribution that achieves, or has the potential to achieve, a significant business milestone for the company.
SurModics believes strongly in providing equity opportunities to employees. New hires to SurModics typically receive a stock award upon joining the company. Employees who create significant value for the organization are likely to receive additional equity awards throughout their career. We believe that equity awards reinforce the importance of achieving performance objectives that enhance shareholder value as well as allow employees to share in SurModics' success.
